My friend Richard told me about one project boat he had, where they made a giant list. They worked through a lot of it, skipped or improvised some of it and just ignored other parts. The boat sailed, they enjoyed it and eventually moved on to another boat.

Boating is interesting in this regard — you understand quickly that you are never going to accomplish all your goals, and learn how to pick your battles and do what fits your needs and capacities, and just let the rest go — and focus on the purpose of the vessel — enjoyment, cruising, fishing, chilling.
