Now, this is a great story in a small town, in a small niche, there are two businesses. One of them got big by doing the other one dirty now for a while, the smaller business had to withdraw and just kind of get along in survival mode. Well, that small business owner is back and determined to recapture market share, shall we say? And they did it in a very clever way, which is a universal profit strategy. They discovered an area where the laundry business, the Goliath and this situation was neglecting There Own opportunity.
So in other words, Goliath got a little sloppy. The small business owner, seeing this opening began to capitalize on it. And actually in that marketing slash media arena is now twice as big as Goliath. And this is so important because even though the smaller business is still smaller, it is projecting a larger image, a more vibrant community, a more fun situation in so many ways, the smaller business owner has already won, even though the revenues are not quite, even now, there’s some other details. The Goliath in this situation has employees. So really person for person dollar for dollar, the smaller business owner is probably making a bigger profit for their effort. And I guess, per capita, right? The small business owner is making a bigger salary than Goliath. Now, in this instance, the media I’m talking about is Instagram, and there’s a lesson there, but it’s also a universal lesson.
So the small business owner happens to like Instagram and is naturally gifted at it. So they are taking advantage of both the neglect from Goliath and their own creativity, their own natural inclination to tell stories in the visual slash pictures slash media mode. Okay. So Instagram might or might not be the platform that is best for you. The lesson for you is to look at your competitor and ask yourself. Yeah, they might be big, but when businesses get big, they also take their eye off the where’s the opening, where’s the opportunity. It might be Instagram. It might be YouTube. It might be postcards or billboards. Doesn’t really matter. It’s more the generic principle at play here. And we are very happy for the small business owner. And here’s, there’s just so many lessons in benefits here. First of all, let’s face it. If you get done dirty, you are wounded and it might be psychologically financially or both.
Right? So the first lesson is that the small business owner is determined, took the licks, you know, took the step back, but came back more focused and more determined to win. Another lesson is observation ability, right? They saw the weakness, they saw the opening. Another lesson is creativity took advantage of that opening. Again, the specific instance here is Instagram. Like I said, they are twice as big as the competitor. And that’s another lesson is that media and or messaging is both a reflection of reality and almost an intimidation or psychological tactic where you are projecting or broadcasting, a level of vibrancy in level of size and strength and power. The small business owner is not lying in any way. Everything is truthful, especially because the subjects of the Instagram are often people. So there’s no line. Uh, and again, it’s a heartwarming story because the small business owner took, shall we say fewer resources and a weaker position and is leveraging it.
I might add without money. This is sometimes possible, but not always possible. So it’s a wonderful story about focus, persistence, determination, creativity, seeing an opportunity and taking advantage of it and keeping the eye on the ball. A Goliath in this case, in this very specific case does not provide as good as service has the smaller entrepreneur. So that’s always been true even when they temporarily got into a bigger position. So now the smaller entrepreneur by projecting size and by getting attention and vibrancy and all that, we’ll be able to deliver their product to more people. And that’s another lesson. You might have a better product, then your competitor, who is bigger than you, doesn’t matter if people don’t know about it, if you can’t attract them to you, your meal will go on Eaton. Your service will go on utilized. So lots of lessons here, we are very happy for the small business owner and very impressed. Quite frankly, Instagram is not our own personal medium of choice, or I don’t know if it really fits, but I just like, you can take the lesson that is contained in this example, I hope this has been helpful to you. And I hope you can think about your own business in a new way, in a creative way. And if you do have competition, analyze them, look where they’re weak, fill the spot where they’re not going. It doesn’t have to be to the death, but sometimes it is.
