No question the response to Covid-19 destroyed thousands of businesses. This was a function of lockdowns and stay at home orders, etc.
While a lot of digits have been spilled over the devastation, when you go outside all you see are customers.
My town is teeming with people, including the tourists that make up a big part of the foot traffic where we live.
There’s more tourists than locusts this year matter of fact which is the joke tell tell about the failed Cicada Apocalypse.
And they are teeming right past all the empty storefronts, spending their money in the businesses that survived.
Due to pent-up demand these businesses are on average doing better than before.
People are spending money – in the places that are open to accept it.
Right now there is an opportunity to start over, for enterprising people like you and me who see that there is an opportunity on the back of a bad event.
I think there is going to be a renaissance of new businesses be started in fact, for one simple reason:
People want to be in business as much as people want to spend money.
Yes its the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup of human nature at work – the desire to own an economic enterprise goes hand in hand with the desire to patronize those businesses.
If you’re leaning toward a physical location, you have your pick of real estate.
In terms of personal services, well I do believe that behavior has shifted toward things like personal fulfillment, health, diet and exercise and relationship products.
It’s a great time to start a new business and I hope some of those people who got pushed off get back on the horse.
