I recently wrote about using a 15-minute timer as a writing technique to get things done.
I also wrote some other malarkey about how easy it was to write and blah blah blah.
Well wouldn’t you know it, I hit a dry patch. Wheels were spinning and I wanted to go, but, well …
So I ate my own dog food. I said to myself, this is taking too long. I am going to re-set the timer and finish this issue before the bell goes off.
And I did with a couple minutes to spare.
So it wasn’t malarkey. Because it ain’t bragging if you can do it as the famous saying goes.
Couple lessons here. Talking big is fine if you back it up. And if that means you must discipline yourself to work a little harder be a little better, good. We get paid for being better at what we do than the customer who is paying us to teach them.
Second, remember the concept of forcing mechanisms. I use page numbers and deadlines. I am also adept enough to create a forcing mechanism on the fly. In this case a mini-deadline or challenge to myself.
Finally, the 15-minute timer works. It is on the website as a bonus for the other programs. If writing is part of your program, use it.
