Hey, this is Frank publisher of Retired Writer’s Club, our secret email list that goes out to business owners just like you who understand that making a profit is the only legitimate goal of business.
I want to talk about how a science fiction writer, Philip K Dick predicted how people would actually use technology.
In one of his books, he had this device that a character was using to dial in to depression, right? It was literally a piece of electronics that could get people into any emotional state they wanted to experience.
The other character was like, if that thing can do that, why choose depression?
Now we don’t know the answer, or maybe we do – people will choose the emotion that they are comfortable with, that they’re familiar with, and that makes them feel safe.
And for some people it’s depression for some people it’s happiness. For some people it’s being angry, right? Hatred is a common feeling that people use technology for. You know what I’m talking about on the internet, right?
Some people say it’s a rage machine.
Our job, as marketers, as business owners is to understand that people use the internet and other electronic mediums to experience the emotions they are comfortable with, that they are familiar with.
And we want to sell to the emotions that our customers have. We can’t make our customers have emotions. They come pre-built.
What we do is associate our products with the emotions that are already in our customers.
That’s emotional trigger marketing, which is one of the things we cover at the website, which is part of your subscription when you join our secret email list in the link below, see you there.
