Establish a set amount of time that you are going to do nothing but write. I use a 15-mintute ticking clock, played through an MP3 I developed years ago. It is literally a kitchen timer with a tick-tick-tick and a ringing bell at the end. It’s on the website if you are a member. I encourage you to download it and use it.
Listening to the ticking is fun for me. And I think it will be for you with some practice.
Once I start the clock the world drops away. It is a mental space where the only activity that occurs is writing. When the bell rings I get up and do something else. Depending on what’s going on I may re-set the timer and do it again.
Listening to the timer makes sure you get the writing done every day. Because you are creating time for it. Or carving time or using time or whatever.
And once your mind has gotten used to the sound of the clock and the discipline of writing in that space you will come up with the work you need to accomplish during that 15 minutes.
