Conan O’Brien has ended his talk show franchise and while it was never that appealing to me I always thought the guy had the oddest tenacity.
In the beginning he just wasn’t very good but he had someone behind him. That used to be called having a “rabbi” meaning you had the support of someone in power.
Then he was just weird, then he got jammed by time slot switches and for the longest time it seemed he was just not having that great a time.
So maybe he wasn’t the best ever, or the most popular.
Apparently he had the longest running talk show in late night, which is a weird accomplishment for someone who was never any of those things above.
Dude just hung on.
They used to call that being a grinder.
Sometime business is like that. You’re not the best-looking or most popular but you just have a good run.
