I want my business good and boring.
I literally want nothing exciting to happen.
Please note that when I say this I am referring to mechanics. I want everything to work.
I want money to come in. And I want to be able to handle customer service easily. Someone forgetting their password doesn’t bother me. That’s just business.
I want my business to be boring so I can do the fun stuff.
The things I enjoy doing and the things that delight my customers.
I’m laughing right now because we have a sink at one of our locations that gets cranky from time to time. That requires me to either handle a slimy snake or get violent with the plunger.
It happened the other day and I swear if there was a video it would go viral. It was like an exorcism.
That’s excitement I can do without.
The key to making sure your business is boring and allows you to do the fun stuff is to have done all the groundwork before hand.
It means thinking about things before they happen.
Obvious things like backing up your data and changing your passwords more often than every 10 years.
I have personally achieved this through study and periods of thinking where it looks like I’m not doing anything. And that’s OK.
After a while it’s not even thinking.
It becomes rooted in your DNA and I would go so far to say it is wisdom.
I hope that right now the fun part of your business is fun and the boring part is boring.
To make sure it stays that way I get on our secret email list, The Daily Profit.
Dipping in every day ensures that prudent and wise thinking becomes your new default. And again, this is so the fun things remain fun because that’s one of the joys on our journey.
PS I just reviewed this email and understand it might look boring. And that’s OK. People who had enough life understand there’s certain kinds of excitement to be avoided. And that boring is good.
