I have this cool feature on my site that allows posts to only be seen by subscribers. It also generates a daily email to our secret list.
I talk about Retired Writers Club in these emails and that is what I am describing.
One of the things that’s cool about it is previous posts can’t be retrieved.
So if you’re not subscribed today you miss out on yesterday’s message.
This is a small feature that I developed using existing technology.
My point is that whatever business you are in, you need to develop some cool little bells and whistles that are unique to you.
It’s what makes you stand out from the crowd.
It’s what makes people want to be part of your group.
It doesn’t need to be a technology feature.
It needs to make sense for whatever program you are selling, it needs to help people feel like they belong and it needs to delight your customer.
Years ago the leading in-house service companies had their technicians put those blue booties on.
The first ones who did it distinguished themselves from the competition. Now everybody does it and it’s no big deal.
Odds are very good those forward-thinking companies are doing something different today to distinguish themselves.
In most cases it is a do it yourself idea.
You can study what other people do such as my Romulan cloaking device but you don’t need to copy it.
You need to capture the essence and do it for your product and your audience.
