The entertainment industry gets a bad rap for rebooting old series and producing endless sequels.
Production companies are in the money making business. And they make money by making entertainment that people buy.
So their reliance on reboots and sequels is actually genius. It works. People do in fact love to buy the same thing over and over again.
There are two elements of reboots and sequels that business owners can profit from:
- A mix of known and new. This is a well-known concept for introducing new products. People have a hard time getting their heads around something completely foreign. So the formula is that every new product should have a mix of known elements and the new – enough to get people initial interest and a little spice shall we say to keep them intrigued to learn more. A rebooted movie series is exactly this. It is known to the customer and has new elements. So you can build on the automatic interest and use controversy and chitter-chat to build excitement for your new recipe.
- Proven emotional formula. Entertainment products appeal to people’s emotions. Batman is one thing and Wonder Woman is another. They both appeal to justice, but Batman has a dose of dark vengeance. Wonder Woman has a lightness, and feminine hero, that appeals to a broader sense of wonder, and yes, god-like feelings. Ghostbusters, the original was funny and a little scary and a little dramatic. Making it with a female cast revisited those feelings with new elements. All examples of reboots and sequels are nothing more than reactivating old emotional triggers that made people buy it in the first place. With the added benefit of gaining new customers due to the passage of time. And those new customers are simultaneously being primed for the inevitable re-reboot that will happen 20 yeas hence.
So in our business, which is always about making money, it pays to think about “rebooting” old ideas. Since we do not own rights to old material in most cases, what we do is model old products. As an example, The 4-Hour Workweek which was a hit a decade ago is no different than The Lazy Man’s Way to Riches that was a hit five decades ago. It is a valid “reboot” without being plagiarism.
In order to pull this off in the product-creation business it pays to understand a little bit of history, as well as the emotional triggers that go into successful products.
And lucky for you I have 2 courses that fit the bill. What a coincidence!
How to Create Million Dollar Products!
A few years back I discovered a formula behind million dollar products. At least I thought I did, it was basically a theory at first.
Fancying myself a scientist I started researching examples where this theory was correct. I wanted to validate my instinct.
Once I “saw” this formula for what it was, it became easy to spot other examples where the same exact thing was duplicated, across all product categories and in all different kinds of media.
At the end of my hunt I had identified 120 case studies where the million dollar formula had been used to create a hit product out of thin air.
The resulting program is 11 and a half hours of mad scientist dissection of what makes these babies tick.
And when you see how other people used the formula in their time and place it becomes easier to create one of your own!
And the great part is you have the same materials in your laboratory that every one of these creators had – your imagination.
Plus you have the added advantage of having the formula spelled out for you right from the beginning – where most of the creators discussed in the program had to stumble their way to the promised land.
How to Create Million Dollar products – and all its secrets – is waiting for you in the exclusive member’s area which you can access as soon as you sign up. But don’t do that until you read about the second program which is either more ingenious or dastardly, I’m not always sure:
MANIPULATION – Emotional Triggers that Make People Buy!
A funny thing happened while I was studying all those million dollar products. I noticed another commonality across the board.
Every single one of those products, while adhering to the secret formula, also did something else to the customer’s mind:
It triggered a series of emotions that were in the customers themselves.
Most products don’t have emotions, per se. But the name of the product, the advertising and the images used all trigger emotions in the prospect.
And I realized in a flash that people weren’t buying the actual products – but the emotions that were in their own minds!
That set me off on another hunt. I catalogued 71 emotions that make people buy. I correlated these emotions against the million dollar products and their sales messages.
In every single example, there are a series of emotional triggers communicated by the product that makes people buy.
The conclusion is simple – if you want to get people to spend money with you, figure out their emotional triggers first – and then write your sales message by appealing to those emotions. (This takes the angst out of copywriting by the way.)
So just like a rebooted movie series, that triggered a set of emotions the first time someone experienced it, the new version is designed to trigger the same emotions. Which means people will buy it again! Even if they don’t like the new cast or complain or blah blah blah.
People clearly buy the same things over and over again, throughout their lives. And they do it because they are appealed to along a very simple set of formulas that have worked for generations.
This knowledge is what is waiting for you in the Exclusive Member’s Area. (The MANIPULATION program is 6 and a half hours long, FYI.)
