People who say they want to be writers are easy targets.
Everyone’s got an opinion. Especially those who don’t do anything.
Same applies to those who want to start businesses, give acting a shot or travel the world.
All you hear is, “No no no no no.”
Not your problem. If you want to start your retirement writing business just do it.
Go to Substack and let it rip. Don’t tell anyone you think might shoot it down.
Set it up and invite people to join your free list.
The fact of having it real actually shoots down negative opinions before they can be uttered.
The best example I can give is this very concept – running a paid newsletter.
I’ve mentioned elsewhere that I wrote a book on it over 7 years ago. Sold quite a few copies – and this was when the technology to pull it off was awkward.
I remember one prominent marketing dundu who ridiculed me for the idea. “No one will pay for that and blah blah blah. Do you like my fancy accent?”
I was right and he was wrong.
And now we have an era where it is becoming mainstream.
Great. Now you may not want to go the paid newsletter route. You may want to write books or sell courses.
Just do it.
Write the book or make the thing and start selling it to customers who want the solution, or just your brilliance.
Ignore the dundus.
Dundus can rob you of your enthusiasm. And then you would have to deal with the double bummer of seeing someone else make hay out of your lovely idea.
BTW, “dundu,” is short for “Dun do that.”
Until tomorrow, FG
