Follow-on thought about being called an a*****e. In the case of the neighbor, I know he is mad because we are doing well. Julie and I are making money, we have 2 great kids, and busy lives.
So it’s understandable that he would call me a name. That’s his only defense to my success.
And I am using it as fuel to get my day started. You see this morning I woke up kind of drifty. Not lazy or unsure just, doop-de-doo.
But then I opened the file and started editing. And thinking about what it means to be attacked.
Yes I am! I am everything you say I am. Any critic is correct in a way. If you say I am bad, okay, I see your point. But that is your reaction to what I am doing. If you say I am great, okay. Again, that is your reaction to what I am doing.
In the case of people who try to shout you down when you are surging, their reaction needs to be put through the translator so you can understand what they are really saying:
- “You’re showing me what I am not!”
- “You’re having too much success too fast!”
- “Who are you to say what I have been thinking but was too afraid to say myself!”
Once you hear what they are really saying, you will say, “yes I am!” And you will get back to work, excited to get more of those reactions.
