Never fails. Every time I ask for a 10 piece Chicken Nugget meal at the drive-thru, the disembodied voice says, “large?”
I say no, medium’s fine.
I don’t think the person at the register with the headset is hoping I get the upsell. I don’t think they have any anxiety about it.
Matter of fact, their blase yet demanding and assumptive attitude is probably better than something fancy like, “Sir, did you know for just thirty cents extra you can get a large fry AND a large drink?”
LOL. I bet that wouldn’t work at all.
They don’t care. They are saying what they are told to say and they say it a hundred times a day.
So of course you should have an upsell with your offering. If it’s not an option on the order form they will never buy it.
Yes you can be a little more enthusiastic about it than the drive-thru. But it doesn’t take much.
McDonald’s deals in big numbers. Even if 90 out of a 100 get offended and say stop trying to upsell me that means they still got 10.
I bet through that the conversion rate is way higher than that.
Offer the upsell – to everyone.
